課程概述

這是一門文史哲翻譯訓練的入門課程，除了幫助同學們培養解決翻譯問題的能力，並且聚焦在探討文學、歷史與哲學等三類文本的特殊性，並且透過專門術語與基本概念之學習來加強譯文之精確性、完整性與可讀性。
This course is a practice-based preliminary training designed to help students acquire some basic problem-solving techniques of translation, and it will also focus on exploring the specific natures of the texts in the respective realms of literature, history, and philosophy. In order to enhance the exactness, comprehensiveness and readability of translated texts, this course will also enquire into the terminology and concepts of literature, history, and philosophy.

課程目標

本課程以下列面向為主要目標：
I. 加強同學的語句分析能力與翻譯技巧。
II. 透過接觸與實際翻譯各類文史哲文本，培養翻譯的專業能力。
III. 透過與老師和同學討論譯文來強化對於原文的了解，並修正譯文。
IV. 建立一位負責任譯者的態度與自我要求，加強避免犯錯的能力。
V. 學會透過各種網路與圖書資源來查找資料，解決翻譯問題。
This course aims at accomplish the following objectives:
I. Enhancing students' abilities of text analysis and translation.
II. Helping students get in touch with and translate all types of literature, history, and philosophy texts, and also developing their professional abilities of translation.
III. In the process of discussing with the instructor and fellow participants, the students will be able to better understand the original texts, so as to correct their own translations.
IV. Helping students establish themselves into responsible translators who try their best to avoid mistakes.
V. Learning how to solve translation problems with Internet resources and printed books, magazines, and dictionaries, etc.

課程要求

(1) 整個學期將會安排11篇文學、歷史與哲學文本進行課堂練習。
(2) 所有文本都會上傳到課程臉書專頁。
(3) 所有同學的譯文將會在課堂上被討論，包括有哪些誤譯與如何進行修改。
(4) 同學必須進行分組，組員應負責閱讀與評論彼此的譯文。
(5) 口頭報告：譯本比較或譯本調查。（每位同學一學期負責兩次）
(6) 同學應該找出自己在文史哲翻譯方面的興趣，於期中考週以前提出學期報告大綱，並在指定期限內完成報告。

(1) A weekly translation exercise of about 800-1000 words/characters long. There will be 11 exercises in total.
(2) Selected texts to be translated will include articles on literature, history and philosophy. Translation assignments will be uploaded on the Facebook for this course.
(3) Weekly translation assignments submitted by students will be discussed in class, including analysis of mistranslations and corrections.
(4) The course will adopt a peer-review system and students are required to read, compare and comment on their fellow participants' works and also try to learn from their own peer-review.
(5) In the semester, the students are required to make oral reports twice, either about translation comparison or research on different translations.
(6) Students should develop their own interests in the translation of literature, history and philosophy texts, and, before the week of midterm exam, propose a research project outline, which is to be implemented before the appointed due date, which will be announced shortly after the semester begins.
